7 JUNE- DAY 0

Packing

It was 6 in the evening. I had just pushed some work to production and was tensed if anything broke while I was away.

Also, I had a flight to catch at 7 in the morning. And still hadn’t packed. So at 6 I called it a day from work after double checking my changes. And prayed to Krishna ji that nothing falls apart. Then I went to the market to get the needful and quickly packed with my mum. By 1 30 in the morning we were done. I took a quick nap for an hour while mum did her last minute cooking and packing. At 3: 30 we both took a cab to DC Chowk where we had to meet the rest of the 30 folks we were going to Kashmir with.

DC Chowk

Here we met our travel companions. Most of them for the first time. They were all young at heart senior citizens, who were done with their responsibilities in life and were now set to have fun. They were members of the Delhi Laughter Club. Me and my friend Khushbu were going with them for the first time. Her mum and dad had roped her in. She had roped me in and I had roped my mum in.

Finally we all took our seats in the bus to the airport.

DAY 1- 8 JUNE

Flight

In the flight, my seat came next to Sethi Uncle. The chairman of this club. It turned out we were not entirely strangers. His elder son and I had worked in the same company sometime back - Bank of America. It was my first job and his son was my super super senior at work. We used to share our cab home and had just met this morning after a long time when he had come to drop Uncle. His younger son was my senior in college. Small world!

Time flew in just talking about random things, families, work and everything. He could say things I could not! It felt he was ultra modern that way. :p All in all, he seemed like a cool man. Also, the flight from Delhi to Srinagar was just 1 hour. It was then, I thought I could go to Srinagar for 3-4 days whenever I felt like taking a break. It could even be a weekend getaway.

Reached Srinagar

In Kashmir, only postpaid numbers worked and mine was prepaid. I didn’t want to get my number changed to postpaid for just one trip. Bigger reason was, I was anyway happy not getting calls and messages for as long as I could.

We got off at the airport where two buses of 16 people-capacity were waiting for us. From the airport we headed for lunch. Khushbu being the workaholic that she sometimes becomes, hadn't taken a leave. She ended up asking for internet from people with postpaid numbers and taking calls. While I ordered random food that I couldn’t eat. And after a while, got up for a stroll around the place till everyone was done eating.

Three Sightseeing points

After lunch we were supposed to cover three local sightseeing points -

  1. Chashme Shahi

  2. Pari Mahal and

  3. I forgot the third one's name :p

They were all gardens, very well maintained ones. With beautiful beautiful flowers. We clicked pictures and that was mostly about it. I usually prefer to go to one place and relax. But if we had to cover 3 points in 3 hours, there was no time to relax.

Hotel

Finally around 6, we reached our hotel. Some ladies still had the enthusiasm to check out the local market- Lal Chowk and went there. We, on the other hand, checked into our rooms, relaxed and had dinner.

Dinner

I don't usually expect much from dinners at hotels. But this one was delicious. Every single dish was good. And also, I was hungry. After a good dinner we went out for a walk to the Zero Point.

Zero Point

Zero Point is the point from which all distances are measured. In Srinagar, this point has a bridge that is lit up at night. It was so soothing and beautiful we could sit there the entire night and even sleep there. Only we didn’t get permission to stay there beyond half an hour. -:p
