One day, my earphones were not working so I was taking calls on loudspeaker. And my mum had come to my room for something.

Later in the evening that day, out of nowhere, she said - Tum aaj jisse baat kar rahi thi, wo ladka kaafi achhaa aur suljha hua lag raha tha.


Me (wondering mujhe to aajtak kabhi aisa nahi kaha )- Aapko kaise pata, aapne to kabhi use nahi dekha, naa mile..


Mummy- Insaan ke baat karne ke lehze se hi pata chal jaata hai!


Me- Jealous, meri aawaaz se to kabhi aisa nahi laga! Although I knew she was right about this guy.


Never have I ever felt Abhishek is anxious. He would always give vibes like sab theek hai! Just to be clear, this piece is about Abhishek.


I first spoke to him when I had to work on eNACH. In the beginning, I used to feel stressed while working on it since it was an overdue piece plus I didn’t understand it at face value. But I also wanted to work on it because I wanted to work on an API integration – the most techy work that TechOps folks get to do.


I started by going through the work already done on eNACH. And making a note of my queries and bombarding Abhishek with them. Surprisingly, he had answers to all my questions. More so, he would never make me feel silly or stupid for asking him anything. He would be very very calm in explaining. And he would explain it again too, if I didn't get it in the first go!


Before I wrote a single word for eNACH, I had to build the existing code for it. Aur build karne jaati thi to aise atrangi errors aate, jinhein sunkar google bhi confuse ho jaata!


I made whole hearted UNsuccessful attempts at trying to build that code for days. And messaged Abhishek every now and then asking what google meant by … ! And my daily update was – I am trying to build the eNACH code.. Still -:p

After a few days, Abhishek took pity on me or probably himself for trying to help me build it and took it upon himself to build it.

The only difference was he got successful after two days.


That was when I started having more confidence! Not in myself -:p ! I knew I could mess up and at some point not know what to do. But I had confidence because Abhishek was there. I was convinced he would always know what to do! Even if I messed something up, he would fix it.


 

Well, I didn't know, in the development phase, I was capable of messing up something or the other everyday. -:p And my every second-third day would be like –



Hi Abhishek,

Xyz question.. How to do this?


At times, I would feel weird pinging him every now and then. Bad too because I knew he was having so many other things to look at!


Then, ye chamka.. CALLS are faster!

Then it became- Hi Abhishek– xyz question.. If you have some time, could we get over a call.. And without fail, within the next 15-30 minutes, whatever I was losing sleep over would be resolved. These last few months, he has been like “ my problems solver friend”..


 


Debugging Days–


Abhishek tells me what the issue is.


Me- How did you get it?

Abhishek - I am seeing the log..

Me - Mujhe kyon nahi dikhta kuch log mein. Let me share my screen


Then, it turns out I am selecting the wrong container, or sometimes I don't know which log to see..

After he finds the logs in under 5 minutes- Dekho, sab likha hota hai log mein.


Me– making a note of the steps he used.. Ab agli baar I will figure it out myself..


Almost the next week, after I am tired of debugging something.. Abhishek, can we connect over call?

See the frequency decreased from once every day to once every week. So, I did make some progress..

:p


 


Another debugging day–


Me – telling him stuff in order (1-10) As 7- 5-2-1-10

Assuming jaise mere dimaag mein sab set hai, use bhi waise hi samajh aa raha hoga


Abhishek- sorts it out- 1-2 -3 -4 -5-6-7-8-9-10


Me- Okay, next time I wont confuse him. Waise dekha jaaye to talent to mera hi hai, I can confuse him..


Abhishek - And from next time, aise nahi hota issue aaya, chalo call kar lete hain, phir bhool jaao. Record it. Make a JIRA!

(Bas yahi din dekhna bacha tha, Engg folks are telling me to be organised, at least ye to I should have been better at!)


 


One funday


We (Me, Abhishek and Abhijeet) are debugging if there is any mocking we have done in code accidentally. I am lost in so many request response docs and screenshots floating on my desktop.


Abhishek- Let's organise it. Folder banaao. EVIDENCE.

(For some reason, this name Evidence is stuck! -:D)


 


Unsolved mystery of eNACH –


It is called Duplicate transactions. Somehow, in some instances of eNACH, duplicate transactions used to get scheduled on their own accord. It didn't happen for every instance, it happened for every 2nd or 3rd instance.

We tried to debug it multiple times.


I had no idea what I could have messed up, but knowing my carelessness and my qismat -:p, there were high chances it could be something with my logic compared to the chances of something being wrong with the system or Abhishek’s part..


Me - Abhishek, I have checked every single line I have written, I don't know what is going wrong. Somehow there are parallel edits going on.


Abhishek - After he has checked his part and found no fault in his logic. Dekho, If this has to do something with the logic you have written I am not going to debug it.


Me (THINKING)- At least you can debug my part of the code. I can't even understand yours..

And not sure how to react! I can be angry if it is proved that there is nothing wrong with my part. And I will have to say sorry if somehow he finds a bug in my code. :p So, I should have said Innocent until proven guilty.


But after trying multiple times, we didn't find anything anywhere. After a few days duplicate transactions didn't happen. In QA too, we haven't seen any case of duplicate transactions yet.


Abhishek’s last comment on that bug says- This issue happened when eNACH code was unstable. Awaiting another instance of duplicate transactions. And I marked it Obsolete.. :D


So this issue stays a dead letter/unanswered question till date.. but I like to think of it as an unsolved mystery! :D


 

After a few days, when the development part was at a better place and my frequency of my asking questions reduced and I would ask something on a fortnight or monthly basis– Abhishek would be like– Kya baat hai, bade din se tumne eNACH mein kuch poocha nahi -:D


Well, I am hoping to work on another amazing tricky piece with this guy.


 


Abhishek is a software developer at Indihood. What I find weird is, he plays chess in his free time. How can someone who codes for work play chess for relaxing! Ye extra high IQ waale logon ki baatein hain, meri samajh ke paar!

(To be completely fair to him, even if it doesn't play with my narrative, he is an outdoorsy person who enjoys sports and adventure sports too -:p)


For me, he is someone who made the difficult stuff easy in the difficult times! Someone who taught me a lot of work related stuff and when I think of it, also stuff more important than work. I would want to be Abhishek to someone!


Needless to say he is a genius and as my mother to my extreme jealousy said that day- an even more amazing person! These people with both high IQ and high EQ, huhh..


@Sanila, a tip for you. In the next meeting, you should ask Abhishek to sing. He sings well. :D

@Abhishek – I have been waiting for eNACH to be stable to say this :D
