28-30 Dec 2022 Day 8-10, Mangalore Days

Writer: Vidhi AggarwalVidhi Aggarwal

After happening days, you need chill days. To absorb, rest, rejuvenate. And so, in the last leg of my vacation, I wanted to chill!

The ordeal of falling sick, as a guest 😛

On my first rest day, I fell sick. Falling sick every once in a while is normal! But falling sick as a guest is next level. And I did it -😛

Eating out doesn’t suit me and now the deal is sealed. I can possibly eat in cafes once in a while, but hotels and restaurants - nope!

I was embarrassed about falling sick! The heat over the last week and outside food for one whole day finally got me!

I had food poisoning or acid reflux or something else. I threw up and had a bad stomach and was out of energy. It felt like I would faint any moment!

And now I would embarrass my hosts too!

On the contrary, from the moment they came to know I was sick, all of them– aunty, Mrinal and even uncle were around me! Mrinal – by her own confession doesn't really bother you unless needed, but she kept on checking on me every 10-15 mins, got me meds, light food to have with the meds, everything!

Aunty made me eat the meds, as I am a sucker for eating them! And kept checking on me!

So did uncle. He prescribed meds, and a care routine.. And again kept a check on me via phone!

When you are sick, you need people, or at least I do! And I felt at home! Perks of having a doctor at home!

It was their care, attention and love, that by afternoon I started getting better.

I regained my appetite in the afternoon and in the evening went out for a walk! Rest of the day I spent watching a movie- Har Har Mahadev based on Shivaji and his commander Baji. In the evening, I took a walk around with my friend!

We had another guest today- Ravi Prasad Uncle. Madhura’s father in law. He had stayed in Mangalore for 22 years before moving to Bangalore now. He turned out to be another gentleman. To my surprise, he mostly talked in English so I could catch up on most of the conversations!

So, I spent my day resting, if not chilling. And having a new found respect and love for this family! I know how hard it is to be around someone sick, but they took care of me like their own daughter!

And I have new standards for myself now, to be as loving and caring a human being like them. I will intentionally do it because these feelings do not come naturally to me!

Chilling Day 2

Today there was an Upnanina ceremony (thread ceremony) of Mrinal’s nephew. In south Indian Brahmin families, they put a thread around the baby’s torso as a mark of Brahmin lineage!

There was one thing that was pre-planned for this trip, it was attending this Upnanina ceremony! And I missed it!

Using common sense, another day in the heat and outside food might not suit me! I was recovering but still weak and needed rest! -😛

The Rao family left their entire home to me to chill around! Completed some pending office work! And finished my yesterday’s movie and started watching Pitchers -🙂

In the afternoon, everyone was back and I got a summary of the ceremony! How there were some north indian dishes too which were served just once, some special sweet dish that they all loved. And it was the right decision to stay home because it was too hot outside!

In the evening, Uncle got me goodies to take back with me! And that idiot Mrinal- she told me I shouldn’t gift them anything! Seemingly she told them the same! But unlike me they didn’t listen to her stupid advice.

Chilling Day 3

Today is the last day of our vacation! So, we have to pack. It feels exciting! To go back to my life now! I will spend my full day packing and writing this.

I have decided to now take two-four extra days on vacations from now on- to write my blog in the same feel and vibes..

I was half done with my blog by the time we had to leave! I had no words to thank uncle and aunty for their hospitality and their time! Not even gifts! So, I just said– I am grateful and feel like they treated me like their own daughter.

Uncle shook hands with me and wished me all the best! He dropped us all to the bus stop and tomorrow I will be back!
