Reviews

I am not a peanuts fan but this chutney made peanuts taste nice.

South Indian breakfast is in general light compared to north indian one. And green leafy veggies are lately my go-to food. As we grow old, our tastes change and I moved from carbs to proteins, surprisingly because I started liking their taste.

Today I had more conversations with everyone, all the characters you met yesterday. Mrinal, her mom- Vanita Aunty and her dad- Anil Uncle. Today I met two more people – Madhura and Srikant.

Today Vanita aunty drove me around the city. To a bank, to their old Surathkal house. There I met her grandmother.

The house was in a way an inspiration for the kind of house I want to build! A lot of times, we need to learn from our past. Especially in architecture and sustainability. These houses are huge, have a compound of their own. A lot of open space and garden area! This garden housed– so many trees and plants!

Coconut trees, banana trees, some fruit like imli and many small shrubs and flowering plants..

Inside, the rooms were very well ventilated and airy. Bright colours, low light, more sunlight! Old architecture! With arches!

And uncle also has an outdoor gym for himself. -:)

It feels nice! But in a way, I also prefer the modern apartments now! For their convenience. The modern amenities. Made for small families. Well suited for 2-3 people! Especially working professionals. Who don't have too much time to look after the house and maintaining it!

I never thought these apartments would make sense to me until I had the experience of both! Placed side by side

Best would be old style houses in a community, or the modern version of villas in a gated society! This requires thinking about everything from construction material to maintenance staff/DIY. Which is an exercise for a later time!

I also came to know my friend more– I knew she was intelligent. But not that she was also a school topper. With a CET rank of 97. And also, a topper in all 3 subjects- PCM in 11th and 12th grade. She had many trophies in sports and other co-curriculars too. *Proud moment* for both me and aunty :D

I also saw her paintings! This girl, Mrinal happens to be so unattached, she didn’t sign her paintings. Everyone else’s paintings were signed – Aunty’s , Madhura’s .. but all the unsigned ones belonged to her. A lot of them would be framed in her new house, I am sure.

After seeing the Surathkal house, aunty showed me around the city! Mrinal’s college- NITK, which is a landmark in Surathkal! Her schools, coaching, friend’s houses, parks etc.. whatever came on the way.

I was being welcomed into someone’s life.. Showed around!

Here people eat with only their dominant hand- right for most! They do not use their left hand for eating. Logic being left hand is used to serve food. And you must not “jhootha” it! I kind of realised this in my second meal today! I had found it odd, when uncle was using his left hand to serve himself the last night and got confused if he was a lefty or righty. Then again I observed Mrinal using her left hand to serve! I knew she was a righty so why sing left hand. And then they told me!

Aunty had observed me eating like I usually do but she did not tell me out of courtesy! -😛
